With stunning scenery and awe-inspiring views it’s all part of a great day out for you and your family in North Wales. Cairn Toul is the third highest Munro in the Cairngorms National Park, the fourth in Scotland and is the second highest point in the western massif of the Cairngorms. Braeriach, the third highest the UK, second highest in the Cairngorms and the highest point in the western massif of the Cairngorms, sits separated from the central section of Ben Macdui and Cairn Gorm, by the pass of the Lairig Ghru. With a crescent-shaped summit and steep craggy corries, Braeriach is one of the more spectacular Munros. Expect to see snow all year round; as the snow on the north-facing corrie of Garbh Coire Mor has only completely melted five times in the last century, the patches that have remained are the longest-lying snow patches in Scotland. The Lairig Ghru is the best-known mountain pass in Scotland, climbing to an altitude of 835 metres and crossing through the Central Cairngorms, through some of the wildest country; it’s a classic walk taking you from Speyside to Deeside.

The Drumochter Hills, near Dalwhinnie, are made up of seven Munros and a single Corbett; the Sow of Atholl . Find out about the geology behind this, one of Britain’s most stunning landscapes, the western half of which is recognised by UNESCO as Fforest Fawr Geopark. Choose a pleasant walk up one of the gentler slopes from the south or a more energetic climb up a sweeping ridge, beside dramatic north facing escarpments to one of our distinctive flat-topped summits. With limited availability on many of our other departure dates this year, we wanted to give as many of you as possible the chance to experience this fabulous 15-day tour.

Nowhere in Scotland has greater geological diversity & skylines. Really enjoyed the train experience up Snowdon during our recent holiday to the area. Very well organised and efficient loading/unloading of passengers. The 30 minute stop at the end of line provided a welcome break to stretch your legs, grab some very fresh air and breath taking photos. Highly recommended but take hats/gloves pretty chilly at the near top. Sitting at the foot of Cairn Toul and the Devil’s Point is, perhaps, one of the most famous and best used Scottish bothies, Corrour Bothy.

There are numerous Munros and Corbetts across the Park, each with their own distinct character, landscape and wildlife. A Munro is the Scottish name for a mountain over 914 metres and there are 282 in Scotland, 55 of which are in the Cairngorms National Park, 4 of which are the highest mountains in the UK. It’s estimated that over 4,000 people have reached the summits of these incredible mountains, for which they are fondly referred to as Munro Baggers. A Corbett is a Scottish hill that is between 762 and 914 metres high and with a drop of 152 metres on all sides, there are 221 Corbetts in Scotland and 26 in the National Park.

If the dates are not available to book they are either sold out or not yet released that far in advance. can be inhospitable and dangerous places for the ill prepared. From one hour to the next, from one hill to the next, they can exhibit a dramatic variation in weather conditions. Shame the train isn’t going to the summit currently but the ride and views were still worth it. We were lucky with the weather so it capped off our day in the National Park brilliantly. The staff were helpful, the trip was well organised and the train was clean and tidy. Cairn Gorm, meaning Blue or Green Hill in Gaelic, is the sixth highest mountain in Britain, and gives its name to the whole range of mountains in the area. A large section on the north-western slopes of the mountain has been developed for downhill skiing, in Coire Cas and Coire na Ciste.

The Matterhorn is the most easily recognised peak in the world. Isolated at the head of the Zermatt Valley, the perfectly shaped mountain needs little introduction and continues to top the ‘must do’ list of thousands of climbers who aspire to climb it each year. But if this is the first time you’ve considered climbing the Matterhorn, you might be wondering – how difficult is it? And why you should climb them hese peaks are busy under good weather and conditions, plus an attempt at each peak is a large investment in time and money.
