Cairn Toul is the third highest Munro in the Cairngorms National Park, the fourth in Scotland and is the second highest point in the western massif of the Cairngorms. Nowhere in Scotland has greater geological diversity & skylines. Really enjoyed the train experience up Snowdon during our recent holiday to the area. Very well organised and efficient loading/unloading of passengers. The 30 minute stop at the end of line provided a welcome break to stretch your legs, grab some very fresh air and breath taking photos. Highly recommended but take hats/gloves pretty chilly at the near top. Sitting at the foot of Cairn Toul and the Devil’s Point is, perhaps, one of the most famous and best used Scottish bothies, Corrour Bothy.

There are numerous Munros and Corbetts across the Park, each with their own distinct character, landscape and wildlife. A Munro is the Scottish name for a mountain over 914 metres and there are 282 in Scotland, 55 of which are in the Cairngorms National Park, 4 of which are the highest mountains in the UK. It’s estimated that over 4,000 people have reached the summits of these incredible mountains, for which they are fondly referred to as Munro Baggers. A Corbett is a Scottish hill that is between 762 and 914 metres high and with a drop of 152 metres on all sides, there are 221 Corbetts in Scotland and 26 in the National Park.

Shame the train isn’t going to the summit currently but the ride and views were still worth it. We were lucky with the weather so it capped off our day in the National Park brilliantly. The staff were helpful, the trip was well organised and the train was clean and tidy. Cairn Gorm, meaning Blue or Green Hill in Gaelic, is the sixth highest mountain in Britain, and gives its name to the whole range of mountains in the area.
